Healthy Spiced Pumpkin Mousse: A Creamy, Nourishing Treat

Welcome everyone!

If you love pumpkin pie, this spiced pumpkin mousse is a must-try! With all the cozy fall flavors and a silky, mousse-like texture, it’s a treat that’s both satisfying and nourishing. Packed with protein and nutrients, it’s the perfect make-ahead hack for a quick breakfast, a wholesome snack, or even a lunchbox addition for work or school. Healthy, easy, and delicious—what’s not to love?

I came across this recipe in Clean Eating Magazine and couldn’t resist giving it a try as a make-ahead breakfast hack. After a few small tweaks, this recipe became wonderfully versatile. Perfect not just for breakfast, but year-round for any occasion. Craving something healthy yet satisfyingly decadent? This treat, with its rich, creamy texture and warm, spiced flavor, tastes as good as pumpkin pie!

Ingredients Needed:

  • Silken Tofu – For that custard-like texture that blends perfectly with the pumpkin. It makes the mousse thick and creamy without any dairy.
  • Pumpkin Puree – Use 100% pure canned pumpkin. Be sure to skip the pumpkin pie filling!
  • Maple Syrup – For just the right amount of natural sweetness.
  • Spices – A warm, cozy blend of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg to give it that familiar pumpkin pie flavor. A pinch of salt helps bring it all together!

Optional Add-ins:

  • Whipped Cream – A dollop of coconut or almond milk whipped cream adds a light, airy texture.
  • Teddy Grahams – For that crunchy, sweet bite (perfect for a fun twist on traditional pie crust).
  • Chocolate Shavings – A bit of dairy-free chocolate adds a nice touch of richness.

How to Make Pumpkin Mousse:

Making this mousse is incredibly simple and quick! In just a few easy steps, you’ll have a creamy, decadent dessert or snack ready to enjoy.

  1. Prep the Tofu: Start by draining the silken tofu. Line a colander with paper towels or a clean dish towel, place the tofu on top, and cover with more paper towels. Put a teapot or something heavy on top to help press out the water. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.
  2. Blend the Ingredients: Add the tofu, pumpkin puree, maple syrup, and spices into a food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. Chill: Transfer the mousse to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight if you prefer.
  4. Serve: Spoon into bowls or jars and top with whipped cream and Teddy Grahams. Enjoy!

Tips for Success:

  • Use Silken Tofu: Be sure to use soft silken tofu, as it has the best texture for blending into creamy desserts.
  • Pure Pumpkin Puree: Stick with 100% pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, which contains added spices and sugar.
  • Sweetener Substitutes: If you want to switch up the sweetness, try using monk fruit sweetener, stevia, honey, or cane sugar instead of maple syrup. Just adjust the measurements since sweeteners vary in strength.
  • Storage: Leftover mousse can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-5 days.

Topping Ideas:

While whipped cream and Teddy Grahams are my go-to toppings, feel free to get creative! Here are some other topping ideas to try:

  • Chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
  • Crushed pretzels for a salty contrast
  • Sliced banana for extra sweetness
  • Healthy Homemade Granola for crunch
  • Crushed graham crackers for a pie-like vibe
  • Caramel or chocolate sauce for extra indulgence
  • Chocolate chips or shavings for a rich finish
  • Shredded coconut for some tropical flair

Helpful Kitchen Tools:

This pumpkin mousse is an ideal dessert for Thanksgiving, but it’s so delicious and easy to make, you’ll want to enjoy it year-round. Whether it’s a nourishing breakfast or a quick snack, this creamy treat is packed with protein and fiber from the tofu and pumpkin, which will keep you feeling full all morning. It’s a great way to add a little extra goodness to your day!

Total Time 20 minutes
Servings: 6
Course: Breakfast, Dessert
Cuisine: #Healthy, American

Ingredients

  • 15 oz (1 can) 100% pure pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 8 oz silken tofu (well drained)
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (Adjust all spices to your liking.)
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • tsp ground cloves
  • tsp nutmeg
  • salt
  • Optional garnishes: Whipped cream, shaved dark chocolate, graham crackers like Teddy Grahams, granola.

Equipment

  • food processor or a blender

Method

  1. Line a colander with some paper towels (or a clean dish towel). Place the tofu on top and then cover with a few moe paper towels. Place a pot or heavy dish on top of the towel-lined tofu and allow to site for 15 minutes to drain. This is a super easy way to squish out excess water from your tofu.
  2. Place tofu, pumpkin puree, maple syrup, and spices into a food processor.
  3. Blend until everything is well incorporated and the pumpkin tofu mixture is rich and creamy. Transfer to an airtight container and place in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours to chill and set.
  4. Spoon ½ cup of the mousse into a serving dish and top with a dollop of whipped cream or topping of choice. Enjoy!
